The world’s largest containership passes safely through the Suez Canal
The world’s largest containership “HMM Algeciras” passed through the Suez Canal on May 25, 2020 under Kadmar agency during her maiden voyage in the Asia – Northern Europe trade lane.
Kadmar is proud to represent HMM Co. Ltd. in Egypt since 1998 and to witness this historic event: the largest ever containership transit through the Suez Canal.
The vessel’s length is approximately 399.9 m with a beam and depth of 61 m and 33.2 m respectively.
HMM Algeciras is the first of 12 HMM 24K TEU class vessels.
Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Vice Admiral Osama Rabie and the top management of Suez Canal Authority attended the transit.
Mr. Mahmoud El Kady, our Business Development Director together with Mr. Emad Madkour, Kadmar Port Said Branch Manager boarded the vessel on the 24th May on arrival at Suez to support the Master and crew.
The Vessel’s transit was escorted by 2 tug boats and 2 Suez Canal pilots, transit time took 9 hours and 53 minutes.
