Alexandria Port Authority announced in a statement issued by it that at 1550 hrs today, a fire broke out on the second floor of one of the buildings belonging to the Customs Authority (Rome warehouse) The warehouse consists of ground floor and four floors on an area of approximately 1,300 square meters in the second area of Alexandria port and the warehouse (contains cargos).
The statement indicated that at exactly 1600 hours, the civil protection vehicles arrived and the fire extinguish was started. The firefighting vehicles of the Navy and Alexandria Governorate were being used. The fire is currently being extinguished with a total of 16 fire trucks.
The surrounding area has also been evacuated due to the building being destroyed, and parts of the third and fourth floors have fallen while continuing to fight and control the fire, and there are no losses of lives or equipment, and no explosions have occurred. The material losses will be counted by the customs authority as soon as the fire is extinguished, and the reasons will be known by the port police and the security authorities.
