Low Sulphur Fuel LSF Available to be Supplied at Alexandria Port
From: General Authority for Alexandria Port
To: Alexandria Chamber of Shipping
In the continuous coordination and kind cooperation between the Alexandria Chamber of shipping and the Alexandria Port Authority and the Port Authority’s endeavor to improve the level of service provided to its customers and in light of the implementation of the international agreements issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding reducing harmful emissions from ships CO2 as a result of operating machinery The International Maritime Organization issued its instructions to use 5% LOW SULPHUR FUEL to be implemented as of 1/1/2020
kindly note that coordination has been made with the Ministry of Petroleum (The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation) for the importance of managing this type of fuel for ships that frequent the port, accordingly all agencies need this type of fuel to publish on their ships (and their own) in the event of a request for any refueling for a vessel with low sulfur fuel, the port authority must be notified at least 48 hours in advance, as well as the required quantities.
Also please be guided that the Alexandria Port Authority is striving to preserve the environment by implementing two other initiatives, which are as follows:
1- JUST IN TIME (JIT)
- It gives ships the opportunity to enter the berths directly without waiting in the outer waiting area, which helps ships to sail at economical speeds, which leads to reducing carbon emissions.
2- ON SHORE POWER SUPPLY (OPS)
- Means supplying ships with electric power from the docks, thus reducing carbon emissions by turning off their diesels.
Sent to your honor for kind attention considering the matter as important and urgent
Captain Tarek Shaheen
Chairman of General Authority for Alexandria Port
