Egypt has officially implemented the TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) Convention, marking a significant milestone in the development of the country’s international transport and logistics framework.
The milestone was formalized through the signing of the Guarantee Agreement between the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and the Egyptian Customs Authority, establishing the national guarantee mechanism required for the operation of the TIR system in Egypt.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. the Minister of Transport, H.E. the Minister of Finance, H.E. the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), senior government officials, and representatives of the logistics and transport sector.
The implementation of the TIR system introduces an internationally recognized customs transit regime that enables the movement of goods across multiple countries under a single customs guarantee and a single TIR Carnet. The system is expected to simplify border procedures, reduce transit times, lower transport and administrative costs, strengthen cargo security, and improve the efficiency of international supply chains.
This achievement further supports Egypt’s strategic vision of becoming a regional logistics and transit hub, leveraging its geographic location to enhance connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Gulf region while supporting integrated logistics corridors and international trade.
