Kindly be informed that an official statement issued today, Wednesday, by Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), confirming that traffic through the Suez Canal remains normal and unaffected in both directions, following the sinking of the drilling rig ADMARINE12 in the Gebel El-Zeit area at the entrance of the Gulf of Suez, approximately 130 nautical miles south of the southern entrance of the Suez Canal in the Red Sea.
Admiral Rabie reassured all stakeholders that the incident occurred outside the navigation channel of the Suez Canal, and has had no impact on vessel transit operations or schedules.
He further noted that the Crisis and Emergency Management Center of the SCA is closely monitoring the developments of the incident, in coordination with the relevant external authorities, as part of its mandate to manage crises that occur beyond the Canal’s navigational zone.
In addition, Admiral Rabie reaffirmed the SCA’s readiness to cooperate with all competent authorities to provide necessary support if required, in alignment with Egypt’s national strategy for centralized crisis management. He also highlighted the SCA’s robust infrastructure, including:
- Highly qualified and experienced maritime personnel.
- Extensive expertise in marine rescue operations.
- Specialized support units for rescue, navigational safety, and pollution control.
It is worth noting that today, Wednesday, the Suez Canal is witnessing the transit of 33 vessels in both directions with a total net tonnage of 1.4 million tons, further confirming the smooth flow of maritime traffic.
