Suez Canal Authority successfully refloated the bulk carrier M/V XIN TAIN YUAN (Panama flag), with a length of 225 meters, beam of 32.2 meters, and a total tonnage of approximately 41,000 tons, after it grounded at km 87 due to a rudder technical failure while transiting with the northbound convoy en route from Denmark to Singapore.
Four SCA tugboats, including AZM 2 (bollard pull of 90 tons), were immediately deployed. The vessel was successfully refloated and returned to its course at approximately 1600 hrs, following the incident which occurred around noon.
The vessel was subsequently escorted to the Great Bitter Lakes for inspection after the crew rectified the technical failure. The operation was carried out efficiently under the supervision of the SCA Crisis Management Committee, in coordination with the Transit Department, Shipyards Department, and the maritime salvage team.
Navigation through the Canal remained unaffected, and traffic has resumed normally. The northbound convoy will continue transit upon completion of inspections, with the vessel scheduled to proceed at the end of the convoy.
It is also noted that 50 vessels transited the Canal in both directions on the same day, with a total net tonnage of approximately 2.2 million tons.
