SCA Leads Dialogue on Navigational Security in the Red Sea Region
In a high-level meeting hosted at the Suez Canal Authority’s headquarters in Ismailia, Admiral Osama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the SCA, met with representatives from 25 major global shipping lines and maritime agencies. The discussions centered around the evolving security landscape in the Red Sea and its implications for global trade and navigation routes.
Admiral Rabiee emphasized the need for a proactive response to the positive security developments in the region, stating:
“We call upon all shipping lines to give serious consideration to assessing their navigation schedules and examine the possibility of the gradual return of a number of the vessels affiliated to them to the region. We stress the importance of positive engagement with current developments and joint efforts to alleviate pressure on global supply chains.”
He affirmed the Suez Canal’s readiness to provide comprehensive support and maritime services under both normal and emergency conditions.

During the meeting, Mr. Mahmoud Medhat El Kady, General Manager of KADMAR Shipping underscored the importance of collaboration with international maritime bodies such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and SOLAS stakeholders. He highlighted the critical need for a coordinated and secure return to regular shipping activity in the Red Sea.
KADMAR Shipping recommended to maintain continued direct communication with CEOs of global shipping lines and maritime analysts, advocating for the classification of the Red Sea as a conflict-free zone. The company actively supports SCA efforts to encourage a gradual reassessment of sailing schedules through the Suez Canal.
