The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is pleased to announce the successful maritime rescue operation of all crew members of the cargo vessel FENER, following an emergency situation in which the vessel developed a 10-degree list to starboard and was at risk of sinking outside the Canal’s navigational channel in the West Waiting Area, north of Port Said, approximately 5 nautical miles west of the Canal’s northern entrance in the Mediterranean Sea.

Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the SCA, confirmed that upon receiving the distress call from the vessel’s master at 11:30 PM on Tuesday, the Port Said Movements Office and the Main Navigation Control Center immediately mobilized two tugboats and three specialized maritime craft to safely evacuate all 12 crew members and secure the vessel during the rescue operation.

Admiral Rabie reassured that all crew members are in good health. Necessary medical care was provided for one crew member who suffered a shoulder dislocation, with treatment carried out at the SCA Canal Hospital.

The Chairman commended the rapid and coordinated efforts of SCA personnel across various departments. The Movements Department promptly deployed the maritime units, while the Services Department provided ambulance support and medical care. Security and Public Relations departments coordinated with relevant authorities and ensured logistical arrangements, including hotel accommodations for the crew as requested.

The SCA Crisis Management Committee continues to monitor the situation closely around the clock, maintaining a high state of readiness to respond to any emergency developments.

Admiral Rabie highlighted that the SCA has introduced new navigational and logistical services to meet customer needs under both normal and emergency conditions, including maritime ambulance services and crew change support.

He concluded by reaffirming the Authority’s readiness to manage potential emergencies professionally through an integrated system of skilled maritime personnel, experienced rescue units, and specialized vessels capable of carrying out maritime rescue, navigational safety, and pollution control operations.
